My Story
Hello! My name is Sydney and I absolutely love to bake! Baking, for me, is an expression of love and happiness. What says I love you better than something baked by someone who loves you?
Let me begin by giving a brief history of who I am, where I am from, where I have been and what has led me to create this web space. For starters, I am from Kansas City, Missouri. A little fun fact about me, I am a HUGE Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan! Trust me, I am a fun person to watch the game with, if you don’t mind a little trash talk, wink, wink!
Once I graduated from high school, I went to college in New Orleans, Louisiana. At that time, I wanted to be a scientist. So, I obtained my Bachler’s degree in Physics from Xavier University of Louisiana. Those were some of the best years of my life. What better way to go into adulthood than in New Orleans? I have been to Mardi Gras, partied on Bourbon Street and have eaten my share of beignets at Café Du Monde. There is nothing like trying to avoid getting powder sugar all over yourself at 1 AM. Hey, it’s not an easy thing to do!
Once I finished undergrad, I figured the next step was to go to graduate school. I began studying atmospheric science and found myself hating every moment of it. One thing I learned in graduate school, besides different cloud types, is you must have passion. Passion will get you through some tough times. What I learned during those six years of graduate study; I did not have the passion for what I was studying. On top of that, I was told by another human being, who was supposed to be the one guiding me through the process, that I wasn’t smart enough to finish my graduate studies. This statement and everything I had experienced, broke the passion I thought I had for the subject and also my spirit. After this experience, I realized I did not want to be an atmospheric scientist, but I do still enjoy the science.
Finding what I was passionate about was a long journey. I had to do a lot of soul searching and some research. After having many in depth conversations with my husband about life passions, I was able to realize what I wanted to do. Like most things in life, the answer was right in front of me the whole time. I loved to cook!
As a child, I always loved to watch cooking shows. I watched cooking show before there was Food Network, YouTube and any other cooking outlet that’s out there now. I used to watch shows like Yan Can Cook, Justin Wilson and the Galloping Gourmet. That was how I spent my summer afternoons as a child. Once I become old enough to handle being in the kitchen, my mom let me take on most of the cooking. I cooked simple stuff, tacos, chili, things like that. My favorite things to make, desserts. I loved making chocolate chip cookies! Funny thing, I still do to this day.
I can honestly say, once I discovered food, I haven’t turned back to anything else. I have COMPLETELY submerged myself into my current craft and I ABSOULTLY love it. To be honest I cannot imagine myself doing anything if it doesn’t involve food in some way. I decided to go to culinary school. This was the best thing ever! I learned so much while I was there. Since I loved to bake, I pursued a degree in baking and pastry. I’ve used what I learned to help me create sweets from my childhood, my travels, request from the people in my life or whatever I think might taste yummy.
I really feel at home in the kitchen. No, seriously… I’ve set up my office right at the kitchen table. It’s the place where I feel inspired. I find joy in the creative process and I want to bring that joy to my site. One of the greatest joys in my life is to know what I created brings joy and happiness to others.
So, join me on this journey of food. I hope you find something you like. I hope you engage in the conversation. Remember, Happiness and love start here, let’s bake something special!
